Stewards of Children

How do we spot a child who is being sexually abused?
What do we do when our suspicions about a child being abused prove to be a reality?
While we prepare our churches to be a “safe sanctuary,” some times home is not a safe sanctuary for a child, especially one who is sexually abused.  It’s hard to know what to do when we suspect a child is being abused.  Often we are afraid and hesitant to act, but what can we do about it?
All adults serving children or youth in our church are invited to help protect the children entrusted to them by attending “Stewards of Children” – a half day workshop facilitated by Jane Donovan to educate adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse and to courageously take action.  Jane has long tenure as an educator and child advocate committed to making a difference in the fight against child abuse.

Disciple Bible Study Programs

Disciple Bible Study Programs - Fall 2008

In our daily lives we spend much time caring for others - giving to family and friends and taking care of those around us who are in need. It is often difficult for us to find time to spend studying God’s Word. However, it is precisely because of our belief in living out the Word of God that we do these things for others. Holy Covenant will be offering the following Disciple Bible Study programs this Fall. We invite you to join us as we open ourselves to God’s calling through the Holy Scriptures.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly…”

Colossians 3:16

Disciple I - "Red"
ImageDisciple I (or “Disciple red”) is a 34-week study of the Old and New Testaments covering all or part of most every book of the Bible. This is a dynamic approach to Bible study for people who are hungry for the Word of God, and is appropriate for newcomers to Bible study as well as longtime students. Ultimately, the goal of Disciple is to transform lives and to develop biblically nourished servant leaders who will serve Christ in the church and in the world.

Disciple II - "Green"
ImageDisciple II (or “Disciple green”) encourages people to open them-selves to hearing what God has to say to them through the Bible and to be guided into service in the world by scripture and their study of it. This 32-week study delves deeper into specific portions of scrip-ture, concentrating on four books: Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts. Participants will read familiar passages, see them in fresh ways, and anticipate that God will speak through them.

Disciple III - "Purple"
ImageThis 32-week study (Disciple III or “Disciple purple”) concentrates on the Old Testament prophets and the Letters of Paul. The prophets and Paul are continually calling hearers and readers back to God and to a sense of who they are as a  people “set apart”.
The Prophets spoke boldly for God out of the community and to the community. Paul also preached boldly out of his unique experience of the risen Lord. Their powerful words have much to say to present-day believers. words have much to say to present-day believers.

Disciple IV - "Yellow"

ImageDisciple IV (or “Disciple yellow”) is a 32-week study concentrating on the “writings” in the Old Testament (Ruth, 1 & 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, and Daniel. New Testament scriptures in-clude the Gospel of John, 1 - 3 John, James, Jude, and Revelation. Present through the entire study is the sense of living toward com-pletion, toward the climax of the message and the promise, extrava- gantly pictured in the Revelation.

Christian Believer
ImageWhy do we believe what we believe? Where do the hymns we sing and the creeds we profess come from? This 30-week study of the classical doctrines of the Christian faith presents, explains, and It emphasizes the relationship of worship, belief, and daily life.
