Retreat to St. Gregory's Abbey on August 1-5. The monastery is located in Shawnee, Oklahoma.Experience Monastic Life - Adult Retreat to St. Gregory’s Abbey In the busyness of life, do you ever wish for moments of peace? Is your soul parched – to the point where you’d like to put aside all burdens and just spend a few days drinking in the sacred and reconnect with God? I found the replenishment I needed two years ago at a Benedictine Abbey and the monks who live there on the grounds of St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. They live their life based on the Rule of St. Benedict where being part of a Christian community means sharing everything you have, worshiping God in all that you do and giving of yourself to the betterment of the community. I’ve longed to return and bring others with me to experience the peace, sacredness and stillness I found there. Adults from Holy Covenant are invited to journey with me this summer and spend 5 days in a retreat at the Abbey. Dates are August 1-5, 2008. Aug 1-3 will be led by Father Charles Buckley who’s been a monk at St. Gregory’s for 38 years; I will lead the remainder of the retreat on Aug 3-5. |

Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." School Starts Early for Metrocrest Social Services (MSS) Though school districts are starting the school year later, preparations begin early at MSS to be sure that children of eligible MSS clients will head off to the first day of classes as well-prepared as every other student in the building. The material and volunteer support of area businesses, faith groups, and individuals will surely make this dream a reality again this August when MSS will fit over 1,000 students with new shoes and provide 1,100 students with backpacks stuffed with school supplies.
How can you help? |

News from San Juan, Guatemala |
Dawnie Dahir On July 4, 2008 I traveled to San Juan, Guatemala with members from University Park UMC. Our project was to get one step closer to converting an abandoned church into a medical/dental clinic. The main things we did were to put in a ceiling and to stucco the walls. We finished the ceiling but the walls will take another team to finish. I am going back in September, 2008 with members from Holy Covenant. We will be working on the same project, possibly finishing the walls and putting in a floor. Guatemala is a beautiful country with wonderful people. I am excited about returning and bringing people from our church who have responded to God's call to help His people. Shalom, Dawnie |

HOLY COVENANT SENDS SHEPHERDS TO GUATEMALA
In September, there will be a mission trip to Guatemala for the purpose of renovating an old deserted Methodist Church into a medical clinic in an effort to assist the community in administering good health and loving care to all its residents. This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute and feel the warmth of love and care being transmitted to God’s children in another location. All that is required is love for humanity and a desire to serve. May we be “shepherds” by sharing our talents, help and love with them and helping them “grow their crops and care for their lambs” and by so doing, follow God’s will and share His love for all mankind.
Would you like to be Shepherd or a helper? If interested, contact Dawnie Dahir at

Stewards of Children How do we spot a child who is being sexually abused? What do we do when our suspicions about a child being abused prove to be a reality? While we prepare our churches to be a “safe sanctuary,” some times home is not a safe sanctuary for a child, especially one who is sexually abused. It’s hard to know what to do when we suspect a child is being abused. Often we are afraid and hesitant to act, but what can we do about it? All adults serving children or youth in our church are invited to help protect the children entrusted to them by attending “Stewards of Children” – a half day workshop facilitated by Jane Donovan to educate adults how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse and to courageously take action. Jane has long tenure as an educator and child advocate committed to making a difference in the fight against child abuse. Seminar Dates & Locations: |
