Renewing Our Covenant...To Restore Our Center for Ministry
Haggai 2:9 My house shall be better than before.
The name “Holy Covenant” is packed with meaning. Covenant means “promise.” The ancient biblical word indicates both relationship and commitment. Covenant means, “You can count on me.” The word "holy" means sacred, set apart for God’s purpose. Thus, to declare ourselves a Holy Covenant is to proclaim that we are committed to one another for God’s good purpose.
As the people of Holy Covenant have dreamed, prayed, and engaged in holy conversation, we have discerned that God wants us to renew our covenant to be a church committed to radical hospitality, passionate worship, intentional faith development, risk-taking mission and service, and extravagant generosity.
One major step in this renewal is the rebuilding of our church facilities. It was never the intent of those faithful who built Holy Covenant from the ground up, that its buildings be allowed to deteriorate. Yet over time, because of limited resources and a dramatic increase of building use, we are faced with this very problem. As a result of our holy conversation the members of Holy Covenant have concluded that it's time to restore our facilities in preparation for the next 30 years of ministry.
Renewing our Covenant is the title of our campaign to raise $600,000 to rebuild our church. When we are finished, we will have the equivalent of three new buildings. This newsletter describes our shared vision and commitment to be the church God is calling us to be. In the next few weeks, We invite you to join our campaign leaders and the church family in praying for God’s guidance in your three-year pledge — over and above your regular giving — as a way to connect your faith and values to the mission of our church.

Why have a Capital Campaign now?
It is never a convenient time for a Capital Campaign, is it? We have let God’s house continue in disrepair long enough, and our facility cries out for attention. If our overgrown parking lot and leaky roof didn’t get us to take notice, certainly, the electrical box that caught on fire was the writing on the wall that we must maintain God’s house. While no burning bush, perhaps this was a sign from God.
How does this Capital Campaign support mission and ministry?
Our church is a bustling center for ministry, with worship, Sunday School, Covenant Kids, Youth, choirs, ESL, support groups, Early Childhood Development, Boy Scouts, and Brownies. There are many more groups, activities, and missions. By maintaining our facility, we insure that the radical ministry our church supports will continue, and that we will be able to support new ones in the future.
But shouldn’t we spend more discretionary dollars on missions?
For years our congregation has supported missions above and beyond our annual budgets through stock sales, communion offerings, and second mile giving. By failing to maintain Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, we undermine our missions.
What will be the result of a successful Capital Campaign?
We can be confident that by being better stewards of the property of Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, we will have a clean, safe and welcoming place. Our goal is to assure that it remains a welcoming center of the many missions we want to see continue and grow. We will “Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” (Romans 15:7)
