Amigos Days

ImageWhat is Amigos Days?

2008 work dates are April 18 & 19 and April 25 & 26.

The rain dates for Amigos are May 2 & 3.

Amigos Days is a hands-on ministry where urban and suburban churches are joining together with residents of urban neighborhoods to make a difference in the city.  Holy Covenant partners with 30 area churches to help with hands-on revitalization of local neighborhoods.  The goals of Amigos Days are making disciples of Jesus Christ, supporting urban churches in mission, building strong, on-going relationships between urban and suburban churches, and restoring and revitalizing urban communities.

Any level of experience is welcome.  People Helping People, the organization that we work with, has asked that only youth 14 years old and above be allowed at the worksite.  If there is a youth between 14 and 17 who is interested in helping, the parent will be required to sign a Release of Liability Form, and also work at the work site on the same day. The house we will be working on has some rotten wood that needs to be replaced, trees and shrubs that are to be cut down or trimmed, screens that need to be replaced, and lots of  scraping and painting.

HOSPITALITY HELP:  To keep everyone's energy and hydration levels up, we'll need help with hospitality.  Help is needed to provide  bottled water, sodas, baked goods, snacks, etc to the worksite.  Another area where you can help is the Fiesta, which is a celebration with the other churches who are working on houses in our area.  There will be games, food, entertainment, etc at our host church.  Thank you to all who have already signed up to help.

DETAILS FOR WORK SITE VOLUNTEERS!!

TOOLS NEEDED:   We will be scraping, painting, trimming trees and bushes, and replacing rotten wood and old screens.  Please bring any tools that you have that will help us get this job done.  Such as:  hand and power tools, scrapers, paint brushes, work gloves, hammers, ladders, tape measure measure, prybars, saws, etc.

ADULT MISSION TRIP

HOLY COVENANT SENDS SHEPHERDS TO GUATEMALA

In September, there will be a mission trip to Guatemala for the purpose of renovating an old deserted Methodist Church into a medical clinic in an effort to assist the community in administering good health and loving care to all its residents.  This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute and feel the warmth of love and care being transmitted to God’s children in another location.  All that is required is love for humanity and a desire to serve.  May we be “shepherds” by sharing our talents, help and love with them and helping them “grow their crops and care for their lambs” and by so doing, follow God’s will and share His love for all mankind.

Would you like to be  Shepherd or a helper?

UMC Special Projects

Bishop's Africa University Initiative
In I Corinthians 3:6, Paul writes: I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. (NRSV) "Africa University has been built (planted), and I am hoping and praying that we, the North Texas Conference, will be Apollos, by watering the plant, but always mindful that it is God who give the growth."
