Holy Covenant Youth News: December 2014

HC Youth News!!

Hey everyone!

We’ve got plenty of opportunities to have fun and be of service in the coming days and weeks!  I mentioned the Civil Rights Bus Tour this past Sunday in Sunday school.  We’re headed to Mississippi and Memphis this year!  I’ll post more details below.

As an incentive, if you a youth volunteers for Harvey’s Kids they’ll get $50 (this month only) and for next week’s Peter’s Colony event they’ll get $25 towards their Civil Rights Bus Tour. We’ll have a couple more opportunities coming up as well.

Advent Sunday School Study

We’ll continue combining Confirmation and the rest of youth for the study “A Different Kind of Christmas.”  Has anyone asked for a goat for Christmas yet?  Heifer gifts being accepted for the next two weeks.

Harvey’s Kids THIS Saturday 3-8 pm
We really could use a few extra hands since we’re providing more time for the parents to get holiday shopping done.

Youth Caroling and Christmas Party 4-7ish
Feliz Navidad!
is our theme this year.  We’re meeting at the church at 4 pm and heading over to Atria to sing carols.  Afterwards we’ll head to Callie Fisher’s house and enjoy a taco bar, we need youth to bring sides like chips/salsa, dip, rice, beans. If you can let me know what you’ll be bringing I can make sure we don’t have duplicates.  Also, bring a wrapped gift for the White Elephant gift exchange. The gift can be something from around the house or silly!  We’ll finish with decorating and eating sugar cookies!  Also, we may be offering 1 free scholarship as a prize to the Civil Rights Bus Tour during the party…

Cookies and Cocoa at Peters Colony!  6-8 pm
As a way to share time and joy with our Peters Colony neighbors we’ll meet at the church and head over to enjoy food and fun with our Peters Colony neighbors.  After the time together, we’ll unload Angel Tree gifts.

Civil Rights Bus Tour Jan 16-18
We’re travelling to Mississippi and Memphis to trace the steps of the Freedom Summer and Freedom Riders as well as re-trace Dr. Martin Luther King’s final days in Memphis before his assassination.  We’ll join other area youth groups to remember the amazing witness the church, and United Methodist church to be exact, played in the Civil Rights struggles in the 60’s.  Cost will be $195 which includes transportation, food and t-shirt, but not souvenirs.  Scholarships are available with no questions asked.  If your youth is interested, please let me know ASAP, we’re trying to guestimate how many seats each church will need.  Seat will be saved by deposit of $50, due December 21st.
