We have just a handful more days until Summer is here! I can’t believe this school is almost over. As we prepare for Senior Sunday (May 17!) and Confirmation Sunday (June 7!) it seems like just yesterday we were planning this services for the previous group. Speaking of Confirmation and Senior Sundays, if your youth is in either 6th or 12th grade, I want to make sure y’all have the dates down and can attend. Check out info below for more details regarding each group, but know that it’s been such a joy and pleasure to be at either the beginning or end of your child’s youth experience here at Holy Covenant.
Senior Sunday (May 17th)
Calling all Seniors! I know our lives change and we focus on different things as we get older. For some of our Seniors, Holy Covenant is still home yet other obligations make participation harder and more sporadic. I don’t care how long it’s been since you’ve joined us for UMYF, we still want to celebrate you and your graduation on May 17th! In order to do that, I need some basic info and invite you to help us plan what the worship will look and feel like. Also, we need pictures to help make the slide show we’ll make. We typically ask for 4-6 photos from each Senior, depicting the stages from baby to now! Please let me know if your youth has interest in joining us!
I will need pictures and info by May 10th to include them in the slide show that we’ll show. You can email them or drop off hard copies in the Church office.
We need Snack Suppers signed up for
It is by the generosity and kindness of youth parents that we’re able to offer a snack supper, since so many of our youth come from handbell and choir rehearsals straight to UMYF. Please check out this calendar of dates needed, and sign up for a day. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, now or the week leading up to when you are preparing a meal. Sign up here!
We Believe Mission and Music tour
We had a great night making calls for Youth Stock Sales this past Sunday evening! We are having our breakfast this coming Sunday. Please make sure your youth can be here to help serve and clean up if at all possible. These events raise vital money so that we can make the trips affordable for so many youth. We have locked in our dates to leave and come back, June 23-29. We are working fervently on other details but we are really excited about what is on the books so far. We anticipate the cost being $250 per person. We need $50 deposits as soon as possible. Then we’d love to have $100 in May and $100 in June.
Harvey’s Kids (May 9th and June 13th)
We’ve had some great participation in Harvey’s Kids, and would love to have more youth join us. We’d love to have 3 HC Youth join us for every Harvey’s Kids, can you fit it in the schedule?!
Godspell! Performed by St. Stephen UMC Youth May 31
This group has been performing this play/musical for years and years. They travel the area and the nation sharing this fun show. We’re hosting the performance, but we’re also hosting a few other youth groups to enjoy the show, so we’ll have dinner first, then play some games together, then enjoy the show. We’re hoping that we’ll have lots of our church members here as well so the audience will be any and all ages. Tentative timeline looks like this:
Choir Tour Rehearsals- 4 pm
Dinner- 5 pm
Games and fun with other youth groups- 6 pm
Godspell performance- 7 pm
New Youth Leaders (Is anyone out there?!)
As many of you know, Andrew Smith recently moved out of town and Melanie Luce will be stepping back once Taylor graduates. We’re excited for the new opportunities for each of them, but that creates a need for new Youth Leaders for our group. I KNOW some of you current parents are great, and have heard about some of our former youth parents that y’all are great as well. Right now the primary time commitment would be Sunday evenings 6-8 pm for UMYF. As we grow, we’ll consider other times and opportunities to experience community together. If you’d like to talk about this with me further, let me know!
