What is Happening This Week
9/18- 9/23/2018

Dear Church,

Holy Covenant will host a Parents’ Night Out on Friday, September 21, from 6 to 9 pm in the Covenant Center for ages Infant – 5th Grade. Reservations are required by Wednesday, September 19! Reserve a place for your child at hcumc.org. You may drop off and pick up children anytime during the designated hours. $10 per child; $25 max per same family

On Sunday, September 23rd, the Advocates will present “Who is Our Neighbor? Homeless Youth” at 9 am in the sanctuary. This will be an opportunity for the church to learn about the McKinney-Vento Act and how we can support homeless youth.

In recognition of Children’s Sabbath and our connection with Sheffield Elementary School through our SALT program, we are collecting new packages of socks and underwear for Elementary aged children at Sheffield. Please bring your donations by Sunday, October 14th and place them in the in the collection box under the stairs in the Education Building.

Blessings,

CROP Hunger Walk
Saturday, October 13th
Walkers raise awareness of hunger in our community and around the world, and raise funds to fight hunger. The Walk starts at Mill Valley Fellowship, 13545 Webb Chapel Rd., Farmers Branch (check-in 8am) and consists of a 2-mile route along the Rawhide Creek Park. Water will be available on the Walk route, and refreshments and family activities will be available at the finish line on Mill Valley Fellowship grounds. Holy Covenant members are invited to participate in the Walk itself, or alternatively make a donation at CROP to one of Holy Covenant’s walkers who will be seeking sponsors. 25% of the funds raised support the Food Pantry at Metrocrest Services; the remaining funds are used by Church World Service in their global hunger and poverty fighting programs in 25+ countries. Please contact Rick Davis (972-814-5325) if you need more information. Sign up in the narthex to participate.

Save the Date!
Holy Covenant’s Annual Dinner and Auction
Saturday, October 6, 2018
5:30 pm

All proceeds from the event go to our church’s support of the local and global ministries of the United Methodist Church.
Here are the basics for the event:
-Dinner is being lovingly prepared by your Auction Committee and it will be awesome!! You may arrive any time between 5:45 and 6:30- come early and then go to the silent auction or vice versa! To help defray the cost of the meal, we are charging $10 for adults and $5 for children. Please note that you must RSVP if you plan to attend the dinner.
-The silent auction opens at 5:30 and closes at 7 when we start the live auction. We will re-open the silent auction for a few minutes after the close of the live auction to allow all a chance to update their bids
-There will be a raffle for a Stay-Cation. This has been a very popular item in the past and selling a ticket or ten is easy! Raffle tickets are available for pick up to sell or to purchase after worship.
How you can help:
-Donate items: All of the items auctioned are made or obtained by members of Holy Covenant – no used items please!
-Buy and sell raffle tickets: Please help us sell raffle tickets! Please pick up tickets in September before and after each service to sell to friends, family, neighbors and co-workers.
-Invite friends to the event: A great dinner, a fun auction, good stuff to buy, and a great cause- what more could you ask for? The more people at the auction, the more fun and the more we raise. Please invite others to join the fun!
To get even more information about the dinner and auction, go to HC Auction. You will also be able to purchase dinner and raffle tickets there. You can also like us on Facebook (Holy Covenant United Methodist Church) and follow us on Twitter (@hcumc) – we will be updating both with auction items as they are received.

Depressed Anonymous
Meets Wednesdays at 6:00 pm
The Colony Emergency Hospital

Meetings are approximately one hour and are open to any person in the area who feels they suffer from depression and wish to find a way out of “the prison of depression”. We follow a 12 STEP program, similar to that of AA, and discuss materials relating to how one can contain or escape depression. The meetings are open-ended so a person may join at any time.
