Highlights This Week Environmental Justice Panel Discussion Sunday, November 15 9 am via Zoom This Sunday, November 15th from 9:00 – 10:15 am, the Advocates for Justice and Peace will present a panel discussion via Zoom on Environmental Justice, often referred to as Environmental Racism. Rev. Andrew Fiser, Associate Director of Missional Outreach for the North Texas UMC Conference will moderate the panel. The panelists are: 1. Professor Evelyn Mayo, the chairperson of Downwinders At Risk 2. Misti O’Quinn, the Dallas Organizer for Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign 3. Olinka Green, an environmental activist at the local, state, and national levels and one of our own, 4. Dr. Sharon Harris, an Instructor of English at TCU. I am so very blessed and honored to be called your new Youth Director here at Holy Covenant UMC! First and foremost, I want to you know that Jesus has come to bring you life and life abundantly. In this life that he has given us, let us remember this during this weird time in our society. With that being said, I wanted to take some time out and introduce myself! I am a New Orleans native and came to Texas at 18 due to Hurricane Katrina hitting in 2005. I finished at two different high schools and graduated from College in 2009. I have a beautiful Daughter named Sarah that is my true pride and joy. This will be my third Methodist Church to serve in as Youth Director coming as a cradle Catholic but who loves the inclusivity of Methodist Doctrine, Worship, Social Justice in regards to our Black, Latino, & LGBTQ brothers and sisters alike. I love to play piano, worship, play lots of Minecraft! Lol Yes, I am a nerd lol. I look forward to seeing and meeting all of you. This Saturday is the deadline for donating Thanksgiving food. After that, we will go out to purchase what we need to make up the difference. Angel Tree Holy Covenant and Connecting the Community plan to serve boys, girls and families in the Carrollton area this Christmas. Please turn in your 2021 pledge TODAY! Coming Soon Advent Study 2020 Starts November 30 via Zoom During the season of Advent, you are invited to attend a Zoom Advent Program. We will meet on Monday evenings beginning November 30 following the first Sunday of Advent from 6:30 – 7:30 PM. We will be following a study Adam Hamilton created this summer for the 2020 Pandemic Advent season. The study is called Incarnation: Rediscovering the Significand of Christmas. You are welcome to buy the book or not. I will be using his book as a foundation but it is not required reading for this program. If you are struggling this advent season with your lack of joyfulness, perhaps deepening your faith and seeing how our Lord arrived into a very dark world will be helpful. We are all in this together! We will meet: November 30, December 7, 14, 21, and end on January 4. We will be send out the Zoom invite on November 30, watch for the link. Advent Devotions Starting December 1 Beginning December 1, we will email an Advent devotional out every morning. There will be scripture, a brief reflection and a short prayer. We hope this might be a blessed way to begin each day as we seek light, as we journey to the manger.
