Scripture for Sunday, August 23: 2 Timothy 3:14-17 Sermon Title: Habits of the Heart Prayers of the People Please keep the following people in your prayers this week: A.P. Loyd who has been moved to assisted living. Carlos Ponce who is home now. Our friends at Atria Carrollton. Those who have lost employment. And continued prayers for the following: The family of Rev. Gene Wisdom; Paul Fincke; Charles Hinton; Janet Trumble; Barbara Wright; Aletha Craven; Mary Harrison; Florence Richter; Tyler Ackerman; Jojo Sain; and Mike Gilbert. Food Pantry Our next Drive Through Food Distribution is this Sunday. We served 117 families at the last Distribution. It takes a lot of food to feed that many people, and it has become very expensive. In July, we spent about $1,700 on food. So far in August, we have spent $2,400, and we have another week to go. Our money has come from grants and the generosity of the congregation. If you would like to donate to the Food Pantry, you can do that online, send a check to the church, or drop off your donation in the church office. Be sure to note that the donation is for the Food Pantry. There are some food products that we have not been able to get from the North Texas Food Bank: Hearty soups Large canned chicken Pasta sauce Dog and cat food We still need help unloading food on Wednesday mornings. If you can help, please contact Lois Eaton at 214-862-8683 or [email protected]. We also need people to help pack boxes and bags on Friday. If you are willing to help, you can sign up on signupgenius or contact Lois Eaton. Someone will be at the church on Thursday and Saturday from 10:00-noon to accept your donations. We look forward to serving our community with the help of the Holy Covenant congregation. Youth Director Sponsors Requested You may have heard that we are excited to be interviewing for a Youth Director for Holy Covenant! We are hard at work on forecasting and budget planning for the months and years ahead. However, because of the tremendous interest in this ministry, a sponsorship campaign is underway to help cover the salary in the meantime. Suggested monthly commitment amount: $50 or $100 Commitment start date: September 1, 2020 Length of commitment: 7 months minimum, through Q1 of 2021 Once forecasting and budgeting are complete in the coming weeks, we will communicate directly with the sponsors regarding any ongoing need beyond that time frame (if any). If you would like to commit to a sponsorship, please contact Christine Perry at [email protected] or 817-239-3575. A line item for the sponsorship has also been added to the donation page on our website. Finances Everyone is concerned about finances at this time, and Holy Covenant is no exception.
