March 15 and 22

Dear Holy Covenant Family,

With the concerns of the COVID-19 cases increasing in the Dallas area, many public and private agencies are making recommendations as well as making difficult decisions to ban or postpone events to reduce the risk of further exposure to the virus. I, too, am concerned about the health and welfare of our church community. Based upon multiple agencies recommendations, we are taking extra measures of care. I am working with JP Mays, our Trustees Chair, and Kammie Powell, our custodian, to go above and beyond our normal disinfecting protocol. For the next two weeks, we are limiting community use of our building so we, staff and members alike, can deep clean our facilities. Kammie Powell has already changed her cleaning products to a broad spectrum disinfectant. JP is currently putting together a two week strategic plan for the building.

Bishop Michael McKee has today issued a request for us to cancel Sunday morning worship for the next two weeks: March 15 and 22. We will honor his requests for the safety of our congregation and community. Please see his full statement here https://mailchi.mp/ntcumc/north-texas-conference-responds-to-coronavirus-pandemic?fbclid=IwAR1TG83fcqK66Dufwuh3UVdOA8zAjPZS5i0FqEQQjhKX31jmGe5OZER0pDY.

Small groups will continue but I do encourage group members to consider postponing meetings if a participant is deemed vulnerable to COVID-19.

The Food Pantry will continue to operate as our clients are especially vulnerable at this time. Please keep those we serve through our Pantry and through Austin Street Centre, as well as those who are isolated, in your prayers. As public events are being cancelled, this is a great time to check in with an elderly or infirmed friend or relative through a text message, Facetime, Skype or an old-fashioned phone call!

We will offer more information as we pull together a comprehensive plan drawn by laity and staff. It is important for each of us to weigh personal health for all public gathering participation. We will continue to communicate through email and social media of the latest planning developments.
