What is Happening This Week 6/10-6/13/21

The Holy Spirit was busy this week at Holy Covenant, along with Oncor!
If you were at church on Sunday or livestreaming you know we were having challenges! There were even some that wondered if the church was haunted due to the creepy noises and odd flickering of lights later Sunday. After a stormy Monday morning electrician’s inspection, we called Oncor to address massive surges in the building. Lights continued to flicker, surge protectors continued to protect our computers and we unplugged everything else. There was a fear of an electrical fire and potential damage.

We had 6 Oncor trucks with 12 Oncor employees here late Monday afternoon. A transformer was identified as being the guilty party. It may have been damaged in the “snowmageddon” of February 2021 and was just barely hanging on. They were able to replace the transformer, saving the day!
We were lucky that the damages seem minimal and the new HVAC systems had a delay in the installation, so they were not impacted.
We look forward to a less dramatic Sunday this week! We will be hearing a favorite Methodist story all about our founder, John Wesley. We will be singing several of Charles Wesley’s beautiful hymns. Hope you will join us!

I will look forward to greeting you on Sunday!
Shalom Blessings,
Pastor Cheryl

Sign Up Now!
HCUMC is participating in the Sack Summer Hunger Program again this summer distributing free, nutritious and easy-to-prepare meals to families with school-aged children who depend on free and reduced lunch programs throughout the school year. Meals are delivered every Saturday during the summer to families in our community. The program runs through July 31st.
We need volunteers to help pick up food from Metrocrest as well as deliver to the families. The commitment is no more than 2 hours on Saturday morning. If you have questions, email Ashley Norris at [email protected].  Please sign up HERE to volunteer.

  fan
Fan Drive
Collecting now through June 22
As we are all aware, the days are getting hotter and the need increases for fans to keep our neighbors cool. The HCUMC Missions Committee is working with Metrocrest Social Services to ensure that fans are provided to those that are most in need. Donations are being accepted now until June 22. We can purchase a box fan for under $20. We are happy to accept any donation amount, which will then be combined with other donations to purchase fans for Metrocrest to distribute to those in need. A monetary donation can be given via check or as an online donation. Please note ‘fan drive’ on your check or online donation form. If you would prefer to purchase a fan and bring it to the church, please place it in the narthex and the fans will be delivered to Metrocrest.

Thank you Holy Covenant for again helping to meet the needs in our community. Past recipients have expressed sincere appreciation for the fans that help them stay cool in the Texas summer heat.
