Happy Lent! Hope your Lent is beginning with spiritual renewal through prayer, addressing habits that lead to restoring your relationship with God, and joining us to new insight on the world around us. These Lenten opportunities will lead us to holy living and a faithful journey to the cross. This week we will be blessed by the presence of Dr. Ron Henderson (see bio below). Sunday, March 6 Scripture: Genesis 1:26-27 Guest Preacher, Rev. Dr. Ronald Henderson Rev. Dr. Ronald Henderson Rev. Dr. Ronald D. Henderson serves as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church and sits on Bishop McKee’s appointive cabinet. Prior to taking on this role in July 2021, Dr. Henderson served for eight years as District Superintendent for the North Central District of the North Texas Conference and spent many years in ministry in the local church, serving as pastor of Custer Road UMC, Hamilton Park UMC, and St. Paul UMC. Dr. Henderson has also served the United Methodist Church as a board member for the General Board of Global Ministries and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. He was a delegate to the World Methodist Conferences in Korea and South Africa, as well as to multiple General Conferences and South Central Jurisdictional Conferences of the United Methodist Church. Dr. Henderson received his Bachelor of Science from Dallas Baptist University, a Master of Divinity from Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia, and a Doctor of Ministry from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. He is married to Saundré and they have four children, Kendre and husband Brandon, Alex, LaTasha, Wesley and wife Andrea, and two grandchildren, Bella and Kingston. Highlight This Week Blood Drive Sunday, March 6 8 am to Noon Please donate if you can. Lent Prayer Jars Available Now! Add a spiritual practice to your family routine this Lent with a family gratitude jar. Make some time as a family each week to respond to a prompt and practice gratitude by writing something you’re grateful for on a slip of paper provided and place it in the jar. Throughout the week family members are encouraged to add to the jar. At the end of Lent open the jar together and look over all that you have been grateful for this season. Starting Sunday! Children’s Church We will use the Lenten season to pilot a Children’s Church program during the 10:30am worship service. Children will come in for worship with their families and leave with Laulie after the Children’s message. Parents will pick up their kids in the gym at the end of the service. Children’s Church will include a short lesson, a relevant activity and free play. It is open to elementary aged children Kinder-5th grade. Sundays starting March 6 though April 10. Lenten Series: A Season of the Heart The Holy Covenant Advocates for Justice & Peace invite you to join them on a Lenten journey focusing on social justice issues. Aid for Ukraine If you are looking for a secure way to support relief efforts in Ukraine, please read the following regarding UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) From the North Texas Conference: In response to the ongoing violence in Ukraine, many churches have inquired about how best to direct aid to those in need. The United Methodist Church in Ukraine and Moldova has created a crisis committee to oversee all incoming foreign support through UMCOR Advance #14053A and direct it to assist refugees within and outside of Ukraine. You can give directly online, or by phone or mail, referencing Advance #14053A. Please feel free to share this information with anyone you know who wants to help, and continue to pray for peace in Ukraine.
