Beloved Community, We begin our very busy October on Friday at 4:00 pm when the pumpkins arrive! We would love your help unloading if you are available! The Fall Festival celebration begins on Saturday at 4:00 pm. Bring your kids! Pumpkins, food, fellowship, trunks with goodies, wear your costumes or not, but join us! All are welcome! We will gather on Sunday for Sunday School classes followed by worship. This week we will celebrate The Lion King! If you have time, watch the movie before arriving. You can join in singing! There are several possible themes: Africa, family, power of being king, bad things happen…. Hope to see you on Sunday to experience another fun “God on Broadway” worship service. Highlights This Week Unloading Pumpkins Friday, October 13 4 pm We need LOTS of volunteers to unload the pumpkins from the truck Friday, October 13 at 4 pm. Concert in the Patch Sunday, October 15 7 pm Enjoy music from the SimonSezBrass Trio while you shop for pumpkins! The members of SimonSezBrass have performed together for over 20 years in different ensembles around the Metroplex. They enjoyed playing together so much- they formed their own band! SimonSezBrass members have performed with The Dallas Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony and Plano Symphony Orchestras. The band greatly enjoys performing music for all generations and from all genres. Postponed! “Homelessness in Our Area” Melanie Meijering, Director of Homeless Resources at Metrocrest Services, will present an overall picture of homelessness in our area – what it looks like, what can be done to help those unsheltered neighbors, and how Metrocrest is responding. Food Pantry Pantry Hours: Tuesday-Thursday from 10-2 2nd and 4th Sundays from 12-1 pm. We currently need: soups, pasta, peanut butter and dry pet food. For our Thanksgiving bags, we need: Instant mashed potatoes, yams, cream of mushroom soup, stuffing mix, canned fried onions, turkey gravy, pie filling and refrigerated pie crusts. Donations may be dropped off Tuesdays through Thursdays between 10:00 am and noon. In addition to that, we accept donations on Sundays before and after worship. There will be carts outside the Pantry for your donations. The Missions Team thanks you for always being there to support the Food Pantry with your donations, your time, and your prayers. Highlights Next Week L.I.F.T. Thursday, October 19 11 am The monthly LIFT (Ladies in Fellowship Together) gathering will be on Thursday, October 19, at 11:00 am at the home of Jane Henry. Go to L.I.F.T. for more information. Bring a snack or covered dish to share. We will enjoy food and fellowship. If you do not have time to prepare a dish, please join us anyway – we want you with us! Flu shots, COVID shots, blood pressure checks, counseling information and HIV/AIDS testing. Clothes Closet Needs We need the following for the HCUMC Community Clothes Closet: -Men’s clothes (all sizes) -Larger sized adult clothing (XL and up) -Children’s clothes (especially toddler) -Shoes (all sizes, specifically work shoes, heavy duty shoes) -New underwear (all sizes, adults and kids) -New socks (all sizes, adults and kids) -Mini shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, lotion -Hangers Please bring clothes to the church office Tuesday – Thursday between 10 am and 2 pm or Sunday mornings. Volunteers Needed Pumpkin Patch October 14-31 11:30 am to 7:30 pm HCUMC is hosting a pumpkin patch this year! The pumpkin patch will support the church, have a positive impact on the community, and will be a fun way to get involved! We cannot do it without you! We still need to fill the following volunteer slots: 10/24 3:30-5:30 10/25 1:30-3:30 10/27 3:30-5:30 10/31 1:30-3:30, 3:30-5:30, and 5:30-7:30 Please sign up HERE for a 2 hour slot! Holy Covenant is Having a Birthday Celebration! 2024 will be Holy Covenant’s 50th anniversary and we will celebrate April 13-14, 2024. We invite you to celebrate your church when you celebrate your birthday. Whenever your birthday falls, consider making a gift to HCUMC. Just mark your gift “Birthday Offering” and put it in the offering plate on Sunday or give ONLINE. Coming Soon Dinner & Game Night Friday, October 27 6 pm Covenant Center Bring your friends, family and your favorite games! Everyone is welcome. Dinner will be a Nacho Bar, so please sign up HERE to let us know what you can contribute. Donations toward dinner expenses (utensils, beverages, etc.) are also appreciated. Austin Street Food Collection Saturday, October 28 9 am to Noon Holy Covenant Kitchen Holy Covenant is scheduled to again provide breakfast for the homeless at Austin Street Shelter. If you are able to donate food, please prepare 12 sandwiches, 12 pieces of fruit and 12 hard-boiled eggs and deliver them to Holy Covenant on Saturday, October 28th, between 9 am and noon. Bottled water and juice boxes are also appreciated. Please drive around to the kitchen door where members of the Spiritual Journey Class will receive the donations from you.
