What is Happening This Week 10/5-10/8/23

Beloved Community,

Sunday begins our God on Broadway series. Our first show is Phantom of the Opera. The first time I saw Phantom was for my birthday. The tickets were a gift from my parents-in-law to the travelling show at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale. Through the entire show I was in awe: the songs, the voices, the costumes, the staging, the chandelier crashing. It was as if we entered a dark shadowed world of masks, obsession, isolation, and love – both romantic and toxic.

As I reflected and prayed about the themes I could preach on, these are a few I considered:
Wearing masks
Hiding in dark basements – both literally and figuratively
Darkness of the soul
Obsession
Romance
You will have to join us on Sunday to experience the gift of the music and find where I have experienced God in the midst of this story. Your first hint is found in the scripture for Sunday. We will be using Paul’s writings found in 2 Corinthians 4:1-6.

The month of October is very busy with many ways you can engage in missions, hospitality, spiritual growth and fellowship. I hope you will join us for many of these wonderful opportunities for our beloved community and beyond.

I look forward to greeting you on Sunday!

Shalom Blessings,
Pastor Cheryl Murphy
