What is Happening This Week 5/11-5/14/23
Beloved Community, “No one escapes pain, fear, and suffering. Yet from pain can come wisdom, from fear can come courage, from suffering can come strength – if we have the virtue of resilience.” Eric Greitens This week has brought us all heartbreaking pain, fear for our family’s safety and personal anguish. We are all moving through the stages of grief for the tragedy in Allen. The reality of loss is weaving into our own lives of celebrations that arrive at the end of a school year. This week is one that takes each of us on a rollercoaster of emotions. So often God surprises us by bringing great blessings during a season of great grief. One of the blessings is the gathering of a beloved community. Hope you will plan to join us for the next two Sundays. This Sunday we will have the awesome gift of Rev. Carol Montgomery preaching on John 14:15-21 – Becoming: One with Each Other. Next Sunday we will be a spending the morning beyond the church walls with our neighbors. Please join us at 9:15 for donuts, coffee and a prayer before heading out for your “holy work.” When hard days need to be endured, gathering with our beloved community offers us a comfort and Shalom peace. We need boxes of cake mix, cans of lemon-lime soda (Sprite, 7up, etc.), foil cake pans, frosting jars and fun sprinkles, candles, etc. Please bring in your donations by the morning of May 21st. Sack Summer Hunger provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals to families with school-aged children who depend on free and reduced lunch programs throughout the school year. Meals are delivered every Saturday free of charge. This program is designed by Metrocrest Services who, in conjunction with area churches, supports local families in our community. The program begins June 3rd and lasts through July 29th. We need volunteers to pick up food from Metrocrest, sorters at Holy Covenant to arrange the food for delivery, drivers to deliver to the families and someone to return any leftover food to Metrocrest. Vacation Bible School this year is Compassion Camp! Sunday. June 4 – Thursday. June 8 5:30pm snack supper 6pm – 8pm program Register NOW Compassion Camp: As we look around the world, our deep need for compassion becomes more evident with each passing day, perhaps now more than ever. Compassion Camp’s goal is to cultivate compassion for each other, ourselves, and the world. We will examine different places in our lives where we can cultivate compassion. Using each of the Compassion Camp components, we’ll explore themes of compassion as they relate to each session’s scripture. Our themes move in this order: Session One introduces compassion and shares how to recognize opportunities to practice it. Session Two focuses on the self; Session Three moves out to the neighbor; Session Four moves out to the world, and Session Five asks us how we might act upon all we have learned from Compassion.
