What is Happening This Week 5/18-5/21/23
Subject: What is Happening at Holy Covenant This Week Happy Thursday, Holy Covenant! I hope you all have had a great week! I am excited about so many things coming up at our church this summer, but I am really, really excited about this Sunday’s BE the Church Sunday. I have done things like this in other churches I have worked at or attended, and they were called things like “Go! Sunday” or “Service Sunday”. When I heard that Holy Covenant calls it “BE the Church Sunday” I thought it sounded like the perfect name for it. I keep thinking about Matthew 5 when Jesus is teaching on top of the mountain and he says that we are the light of the world. Matthew 5, verses 14-16 read: “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. People do not light a lamp and put it under the bushel basket; rather, they put it on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” A city on a hill cannot be hidden. You do not light a lamp and hide it away. You light it and you set it out to give light to all. This is who we are as followers of Jesus. As people that do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. As people that love unconditionally, radically include all, and serve their neighbors. This Sunday, as we go out into the community and BE the church, that is what we will do. We will show love and serve our neighbors. We will be the light in this world. We will be the church! I hope you will join us Sunday for a project with our neighbors. I have included the SIGN UP, or you can just show up and we will get you plugged in! We will see you Sunday at 9:15am for coffee, donuts, a prayer and sendoff! Laulie Eckeberger Director of Family Discipleship We will not hold regular worship or livestream at 10:30 am this Sunday. This church serves hundreds of people each month out of our food pantry who are struggling to make ends meet. They have things that are worthy of celebrating just like everyone else (birthdays, graduations, new jobs, etc.). So, we are putting together a shelf stable way to make cakes! We need boxes of cake mix, cans of lemon-lime soda (Sprite, 7up, etc.), foil cake pans, frosting and fun sprinkles, candles, etc. Please bring in your donations by the morning of May 21st. We will have an opportunity to put the kits together for the food pantry on Sunday, May 21st as part of Holy Covenant’s “BE the Church” Sunday. Thank you!! June 8 5:30pm snack supper 6pm – 8pm program Register NOW Compassion Camp: As we look around the world, our deep need for compassion becomes more evident with each passing day, perhaps now more than ever. Compassion Camp’s goal is to cultivate compassion for each other, ourselves, and the world. We will examine different places in our lives where we can cultivate compassion. Using each of the Compassion Camp components, we’ll explore themes of compassion as they relate to each session’s scripture. Our themes move in this order: Session One introduces compassion and shares how to recognize opportunities to practice it. Session Two focuses on the self; Session Three moves out to the neighbor; Session Four moves out to the world, and Session Five asks us how we might act upon all we have learned from Compassion.
