What is Happening This Week 5/4-5/7/23
Beloved Community, Today is the National Day of Prayer, the first Thursday in May. I attended the 42nd annual Dallas National Day of Prayer Luncheon at the Meyerson today. The theme from the hosts, The Thanks-Giving Foundation, was “Love People.” They focused on the importance of a community that requires all of us to be connectional, engaged, inclusive, diverse, equal & faithful. They encouraged us each day to focus on three simple ideas: -Choose love over hate -Get involved & make a difference -Practice gratitude Let’s all find time today to pray for our community, our neighbors, and our peaceful coexistence. Let’s pray for Shalom living in our neighborhoods. Let’s be the ones that lead our community to the Kingdom living we are all called to everyday! On Sunday, we will gather for Holy Communion (our communion offering will be for ECDP) as we reflect on living as the holy and chosen people of God. Both the Covenant Carillons and the Wesleyan Choir will be leading worship. I look forward to greeting you on Sunday! Coming Soon BE the Church Sunday May 21 9:15 am Mark your calendars! Sign up HERE No matter how loudly we sing in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings, people driving along Josey Lane cannot hear our voices. No matter how fervently we pray in worship for the needs of our neighbors, near and far, our solidarity with them remains unknown to many. In order for word of Holy Covenant’s passionate love for God and neighbor to get out, we must get out beyond the walls of our building so our neighbors can witness us in action. That is the essence of “Don’t Go to Church – BE the Church” Sunday on May 21st. We will meet in the sanctuary at 9:15 am to pray together before we take Holy Covenant beyond our walls! We will offer several projects including indoor and outdoor activities to serve those in need. We will have projects for every age and ability. Please sign up HERE! Sack Summer Hunger Saturdays in June and July Sign up HERE HCUMC will be participating in the Sack Summer Hunger Program again this summer. Sack Summer Hunger provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals to families with school-aged children who depend on free and reduced lunch programs throughout the school year. Meals are delivered every Saturday free of charge. This program is designed by Metrocrest Social Services who, in conjunction with area churches, supports local families in our community. The program begins June 3rd and lasts through July 29th. We need volunteers to help pick up food from Metrocrest, sorters at Holy Covenant to arrange the food for delivery, drivers to deliver to the families and someone to return any leftover food to Metrocrest. The commitment is no more than 2 hours (between 8 am and noon) on Saturday morning. If you have questions, email Laulie Eckeberger at [email protected]. Sign up HERE!
