What is Happening This Week 6/29-7/2/23

![]() Beloved Community, Hope you are surviving these hot relentless days! Tomorrow we will gather in the cool sanctuary for Noli Paa’s Concert at 7:00 PM. It will be a wonderful evening. The soloist have been practicing with Noli and we are in for a real treat! I will look forward to greeting you there! On Saturday, Jeff and I begin searching for cooler temperatures in New Mexico, maybe we will find them! On Sunday Laulie will begin her Sunday School class in the sanctuary at 9:15 for all Adults and Youth. She will begin with an overview of Queer Theology. This week will begin with how we arrived at where we are. At 10:30 we will begin our Holy Communion service with a very special pastor. We are honored to welcome guest preacher, Rev. Randall Lucas, from Lovers Lane UMC in Dallas this Sunday: Rev. Randall Lucas is an openly gay provisional elder in the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. He earned two master’s degrees from SMU’s Perkins School of Theology – Master of Divinity, and a Master of Arts in Ministry, with an emphasis on Evangelism and Mission. He is appointed as an Associate Pastor at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. He was raised Baptist but, in high school, attended a charismatic church loosely affiliated with the Assemblies of God. After high school, he attended Assemblies of God College in California. While in California, he came out as a gay man, and he was then shunned by his church. Randall was required by the college to go to counseling because of his sexuality. After graduating and moving back to Texas, he searched for a church home where he could be authentically himself. He found a church home at LLUMC. There he was able to serve in the church’s mission ministry as an openly gay person. Because of his lived experience, he is passionate about reclaiming the Christian faith for marginalized people. His passion for justice is not only for those who are LGBTQ but for all who are marginalized. He loves proclaiming the Good News of a loving and grace-filled God to people who have not heard the message. In his free time, he enjoys taking long walks with his dog (Pepe), going to dinner with his friends, watching movies (he loves gay romantic comedies), reading books, dancing, and playing volleyball. Shalom Blessings, Pastor Cheryl ![]() We hope you are joining us either in-person, or for online worship on Facebook Live. We will be on Facebook again this Sunday at 10:30 am.
