What is Happening This Week 2/8-2/11/24

Beloved Community,

We have a busy week ahead; hope you will join us for several activities! (For Mary’s celebration and Sunday morning activities, please remember to park in the far spots if you are able to walk. We need the closer spaces for guests and those who struggle with mobility.)

Mary Mitchell Trimble’s Celebration of Life service will be at 1:00 PM Friday with a reception following. We will be livestreaming on the website and on Facebook.

Saturday evening we will gather in the Covenant Center for the Chili Cookoff. Bring chili in a crockpot to share (at 5:30). Bring dollar bills for voting! And bring a good appetite for feasting at 6:00! If you are craving time with church friends and fellowship, this is your moment to enjoy!

Sunday morning, we will gather for Sunday School classes at 9:15 and worship at 10:30. We will reflect on the story about Jesus’ transfiguration found in Mark 9:2-9. The mysterious encounter between Jesus and his disciples will offer us a good invitation into our Lenten season.

On Wednesday, February 14 we will gather to begin our Lenten journey with a Pancake Supper at 5:30 and Ash Wednesday Taize Worship at 6:30. Laulie will gather in the Covenant Center with the children and youth and join everyone in the sanctuary for ashes. We will all be invited to a journey that encourages us to pray, to fast from things that separate us from God, and to thrive in our spiritual life. I will help you to find a way to this holy season that may be helpful in your journey.

This week will have moments of sadness and joy. We will gather as a beloved community to celebrate the life of one loved that is now in the heavenly realm; we will feast together; we will praise and worship the mystery of our Lord; we will begin a holy season that may transform our discipleship. I am looking forward to being with each of you over the next week!

I will be here to greet you!

Shalom Blessings,
Pastor Cheryl Murphy

Courage Over Comfort Group – The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
“Who you are is God’s gift to you. Who you become is your gift to God.” Do you feel like you are living your best life and growing into who you are meant to be? Come and geek out with us as we learn with some of the leading experts in brain modification and habit formation, mindfulness and meditation, simplification and clarification, and bravery through vulnerability and whole-hearted living. Join a supportive group of your church family as we encourage each other to grow, live our best lives, and be the change we wish to see in this world.

Join me in February to explore an awesome book on personal growth and habit formation. “In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, author Stephen R. Covey presents a holistic, integrated, principle-centered approach for solving personal and professional problems. With penetrating insights and pointed anecdotes, Covey reveals a step-by-step pathway for living with fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity – principles that give us the security to adapt and change, and the wisdom and power to take advantage of the opportunities that change creates.”

Courage Over Comfort will meet: Sunday, February 11th and Sunday, February 25th after worship in the Pathfinders room. Bring a sack lunch! If you would like to join me on this journey, please email me at [email protected].

Blessings,
