What is Happening This Week 5/30-6/2/24

Beloved Community,

What a week it has been! Hope you are safe and recovering!

Sadly, we lost a huge tree in the backyard of the parsonage. On Tuesday, a powerless day, I was so sad about my tree. We had just spent the weekend playing in the shade with our grandchildren. On Monday evening, before the rain moved in, we sat under its beautiful branches blowing in the breeze. I loved the tree. Hanging from its branches were my colorful star lights, a blooming flowering basket and singing chimes. As we looked at the exposed roots, we realized the tree was weaker than we knew. The roots were beginning to rot. The tree was so strong above the ground and falling apart beneath the ground.

As I have grieved this week, the team of tree trimmers cut the tree into smaller pieces and stacked it on the front sidewalk for the city to pick up next week. We will need to recover our little garden, our small fountain, replant our flowering pots and replace our squashed spinner from Santa Fe. This weekend we will begin to recreate our sacred backyard space. We will embrace something different and new. It won’t be our beautiful tree, but it will be precious in a new way.

We were very fortunate that the tree fell between the fence and the house causing no damage beyond replaceable things. My prayers are for those who had a much worse week, with more damage not so easily fixed and replaced. Prayers continue to surround the community of Valley View.

Hope you will join us on Sunday! We will be invited to the Lord’s Table and reflecting on thriving this summer!

I look forward to greeting you there!

Shalom Blessings,
Pastor Cheryl Murphy

The program begins June 1st and lasts through July 27th. We need drivers to pick up food from Metrocrest, someone to sort the bags for delivery, drivers to deliver to the families and someone to return any leftover food to Metrocrest. The commitment is no more than 2 hours (between 8 am and noon) on Saturday morning. If you have questions, email Laulie Eckeberger at [email protected]. Sign up HERE!

Join us for Compassion Camp 2024! Through Compassion Camp: What Every Living Thing Needs, participants will explore what all living things need to live—shelter, food, water, air, and community—and how they can have compassion for the living earth, especially in their local ecosystems. Through awareness, gratitude, wonderment, reciprocity, and kinship, participants will consider how to become co-sustainers and participants in the work of God’s creation. Using Psalm 104 as the grounding text, along with additional supporting scripture, participants will closely examine the interconnectedness of the whole earth—humans alongside the more-than-human world.
