 Beloved Community! What a week it has been! The Annual Conference this week was filled with hope, excitement and Spirit! We are so proud of Rev. Monica Frazier! And although she is not officially ours, we TOTALLY claim her! Thank you to the many who attended and watched the Worship service on Monday evening! A great celebration for all of us! We are returning to a busy church with the preschool camp, preparing for VBS and a very busy Food Pantry supporting our neighbors! The sanctuary has been decorated for the Very Best School week of the year!!!!! Hope you will come to be part of the kickoff on Sunday morning and then return Sunday evening for VBS Day one! The theme is What Every Living Thing Needs! We all need you to be with us on Sunday for worship! Our church family is not complete without your presence! Hope you will join us! Through Compassion Camp: What Every Living Thing Needs, participants will explore what all living things need to live—shelter, food, water, air, and community—and how they can have compassion for the living earth, especially in their local ecosystems. Through awareness, gratitude, wonderment, reciprocity, and kinship, participants will consider how to become co-sustainers and participants in the work of God’s creation. Using Psalm 104 as the grounding text, along with additional supporting scripture, participants will closely examine the interconnectedness of the whole earth—humans alongside the more-than-human world.  Volunteers Needed! Sack Summer Hunger Saturday mornings through July 27 Sign up HERE HCUMC is participating in the Sack Summer Hunger Program again this summer, providing nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals to families with school-aged children who depend on free and reduced lunch programs throughout the school year. Meals are delivered every Saturday free of charge. This program is facilitated by Metrocrest Services who, in conjunction with area churches, supports local families in our community. The program lasts through July 27th. We need drivers to pick up food from Metrocrest, someone to sort the bags for delivery, drivers to deliver to the families and someone to return any leftover food to Metrocrest. Highlights Next Week Rosemeade Rainforest Meetup Thursdays, 11 am to 3 pm Come hang out and swim with Laulie at the Rosemeade Rainforest! Kids have to be able to swim to be left without a parent.  Parents’ Night Out Friday, June 14 5 – 8:30 pm in the Covenant Center Drop your kids off for a night of dinner, activities and a movie! Spend some quality time alone or with friends while we watch the kids! Contact Laulie [email protected] to reserve a spot for your child.  Food Pantry Pantry Hours: Tuesday-Thursday from 10-2 2nd and 4th Sundays from 12-1 pm We currently need soups, chili, canned beans, canned meat, and pet food. Donations may be dropped off Tuesdays through Thursdays between 10 am and 2 pm. In addition to that, we accept donations on Sundays before and after worship. There will be carts outside the Pantry for your donations.  Collecting NOW Fan Drive Through the Month of June The days are getting hotter and the need is increasing for fans to keep our neighbors cool. The HCUMC Missions Committee is working with Metrocrest Services to ensure fans are provided to those who are most in need. We can purchase a box fan for around $25. We are happy to accept any donation amount, which will then be combined with other donations to purchase fans for Metrocrest to distribute to those in need. A monetary donation can be made via check or ONLINE. Please note ‘fan drive’ on your check. If you would prefer to purchase a fan and bring it to the church, please place it in the narthex and the fans will be delivered to Metrocrest.  Clothes Closet Needs We need the following for the HCUMC Community Clothes Closet: -Men’s clothes (all sizes) -Women’s pants -Children’s clothes -Shoes (all sizes, specifically work shoes, heavy duty shoes) -New underwear and socks (all sizes) -Mini shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, lotion Please bring clothes to the church Tuesday – Thursday between 10 am and 2 pm or Sunday mornings.  Coming Soon Screening of “1946” Thursday, June 20 6:45 pm in the Sanctuary 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture is a feature documentary that follows the story of tireless researchers who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation of the Bible in 1946. It chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University which unveil astonishing new revelations, and casts significant doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice. Featuring commentary from prominent scholars as well as opposing pastors, including the personal stories of the film’s creators, 1946 is at once challenging, enlightening, and inspiring.
