What is Happening This Week 3/25-3/28/21

Praise God! Holy Covenant is FINALLY opening up for in-person worship! In our wildest dreams we would not have imagined no congregational worship for a year in our church building! But that was reality and it is OVER!   We wanted to report to all of you that Sunday was great, outstanding, wonderful to worship at last as a gathered family!   As you feel safe, please join us for 8:30 outside worship in the back (bring your own chairs and beverage) or 10:30 in the sanctuary.  We will continue to live stream the 10:30 AM worship and the evening Holy Week services (next Thursday and Friday evenings at 7:00 PM).   We are requesting that everyone wears a mask and is as distant as is appropriate. We also have air purifiers that are cleaning the air in the sanctuary keeping it as safe as possible.   Join us for after worship fun this Sunday! … Read More

What is Happening This Week 3/11-3/14/21

A year ago today we began our pandemic shut-down. The reality began for me at a lunch with my District Superintendent, Todd Harris and the Grayson County clergy at Huck’s (a fried catfish favorite restaurant in Denison). They were talking about the Dallas area churches having worship this one last week and then shutting down. I was shocked! Then phones were beeping with the NBA cancelling games, golfers walking off the Players tournament, and…you know the rest.   A year that required faithful resilience, patience, courage and changed all of us in many ways. After a year, Holy Covenant is planning on opening up for in-person worship on Sunday, March 21. And perhaps, you will be so filled with joy to return to see friends and worship together that you won’t notice there will be a new preacher welcoming you back and a new music director inviting you to “sing.” We will not be able to return to everything, … Read More

What is Happening This Week 3/4-3/7/21

St. Francis de Sales once said, “Have patience with all things but first of all with yourself.” Good words of wisdom for our Lenten journey.    We need to be patient and loving to ourselves. We also need to remain in the season of “doing no harm.” For that reason, when you are on the Holy Covenant property we will continue to be requiring masks, distancing between one another and hand washing hygiene. The leadership will continue to follow the suggestions of the CDC and leading doctors and scientists. We will be posting signs and encouraging people to continue to be patience. We are so close to being safe again, to arriving on the dawn of this liminal season.   We are working towards offering three ways to worship with the HCUMC congregation beginning Sunday, March 21: 8:30 am Outside in-person10:30 am Livestreaming10:30 am In-person, with masks, distance & an air purifier installed in … Read More

Wow! What a week! Hope you are well, safe and warm as you receive this email.   No one could imagine the week we have had. If you were lucky enough to keep power and water this week – you did well! Many struggled and are still struggling! What a way to begin Lent! Lent is a season of wilderness walking – but really after the year we have had, who needed any more time in the wilderness with wild beasts? This Sunday we will begin our Lenten worship services. They will be reflecting on things in our lives that pull as away from a God that want to be in our lives. Through our prayers, our scriptures, our songs, our witness we will feel the presences of our Living God with us! Even in the messiness of our daily struggles. Hope you will tune to join Holy Covenant’s livestreaming worship on Sunday morning at … Read More
