Coronavirus Update

March 18, 2020

Dear ECDP Families,
Our nation is facing a highly contagious virus. In the course of a week, the nation’s response to this threat has necessitated a change in the way our schools operate. Holy Covenant Early Childhood Development Program is currently on spring break. However, our neighboring school districts have closed their schools through April 3rd. ECDP is joining the battle to flatten the curve by also closing the school through April 3rd. We plan to resume classes on Monday, April 6th barring any other developments. Mandates by the Dallas County Health Department, the City of Carrollton, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, and the United Methodist Church may further influence the date for resuming classes. Because of this unexpected closure, we are also planning on extending our school year through May 22, 2020.
When classes resume, we will have updated, more stringent health standards for school admittance. Not only will your child’s health be scrutinized, but your whole family’s health will be considered in admitting your child to school. This is for the protection of our school families. Your decision to bring your child to school will affect all the families in your child’s class.
Another change in the running of ECDP for the remainder of this school year will be a limiting of access to the school. Admittance to the preschool will be limited to only Holy Covenant UMC faculty, ECDP faculty, and current ECDP families. However, we would like to further limit access to the school by doing drop off and pick up outside the school which will entail a new system that we will share with you in early April.
Sadly, we will have to cancel our larger events for the remainder of the year, including the Spring Program, Pancake Breakfast, Mother’s Day Tea. I hope we’ll be able to do a online auction for the items collected for the Pancake Breakfast Auction. I really hate to cancel these events, but this is another way we can limit access to the school for the protection of our students.
This will be a big adjustment for us all. However, we want to do all we can to keep our children’s lives as normal as possible. Many of you may be unsure about returning to school, and I honor those feelings. Our children are precious, and they depend on us to make good choices for them. Let me assure you that we have always been serious about sanitizing toys and classroom surfaces, and this virus has only made us more attentive to our sanitizing methods. Because we follow the Minimum Standards set out by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, we are already meticulous in keeping our learning spaces clean. Likewise, we have been teaching your children all year about the importance of washing their hands. There are seven different instances when we have your children wash their hands at school, and there are thirteen instances when teachers wash their hands. Your child’s safety is our number one priority. You can depend on us to be vigilant in guarding them when we do transition back to school.
Beginning next week, ECDP teachers will be posting video lessons on school days. Tune in to our social media. Maybe your child’s teacher will be presenting!
Stay safe and enjoy this special time with all of your children.

Sincerely,
Beth McClure

Our Preschool

The Early Childhood Development Program has been meeting the needs of preschoolers (18 months through Kindergarten) since 1978.

ECDP reaches families in Carrollton, Dallas, Plano, Coppell, Lewisville, The Colony, Flower Mound, Little Elm and other surrounding areas.

ECDP

Preschool classes meet between Monday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. We are licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

We are here to help children discover their world as they learn to love God, themselves, and others in a caring, nurturing, and Christian environment. Holy Covenant is a preschool for the whole family. As our students become friends, their families also become friends, pulling our school community into a tight, loving space for our children. We are an ideal bridge between home and school.
