What is Happening This Week 6/5 – 6/9/19

Sack Summer Hunger Saturdays, June 8 – August 3 9 am to noon During the school year, many of the children in our community benefit from the free/reduced lunch program which provides them with breakfast and lunch for free or at a reduced cost. However, when school is out for the summer, the program is not available. We partner with Metrocrest (Social Services) to bridge this gap with the Sack Summer Hunger program. The program provides breakfast, lunch and snacks for school-aged children throughout the summer. The families receive a sack of food for each school-aged child in their household. Each Saturday during the summer, they can either pick up the bags from the church or have them delivered to their homes. Volunteers are needed to help make this program successful. There are sign-up sheets in the Narthex for delivery drivers, distribution at church, and to help pick up the … Read More

Holy Conversations

Making Decisions TOGETHER Working “together” is paramount to seeking God’s desires for what Holy Covenant will do in response to the General Conference decision to withhold ordination from members of the LBGTQAI community, deny and punish current ordained clergy the right to officiate same sex weddings, and continue the teaching that the practice of homosexuality is a sin. What is the work before us as a community? The work is twofold. First is the individual work. Each of us must ask ourselves what we believe, what theology or scripture informed our belief, what are we willing to do as a result of our belief, what are we willing to give up or sacrifice to make our “to do” happen and so forth. If we do not do our individual work, we will be impaired in our collective work. Secondly is our collective work. Together we begin by answering five core … Read More

Lent Week 5 A Time for Every Matter The teacher in Ecclesiastes speaks to there being a right time, a right season for everything. I think humanity has lost its appreciation of the seasons. There used to be times of the year when fruit or vegetables were in season and available, but now with global shipping, it is always that season somewhere in the world and, if you are willing to pay enough, you can get what you are after. This loss of natural rhythms even extends to our daily lives. The electric light bulb has changed how we sleep. We used to sleep in two blocks of about four hours each with an hour or two in-between. Scientist are now linking many current health issues to our internal clocks or circadian rhythms being so thrown off by unnatural light. Natural forces used to shape the flow of life, but … Read More
